Tips & instructions for secure transactions
The evolution of technology and modern life have made online transactions a key part of our daily lives. As our daily needs are largely met through digital channels, there has been a rapid increase in incidents of online fraud aimed at stealing our personal data, such as passwords and credit and debit card details.
At COSMOTE Payments, we recognize the paramount importance of the security of the services we provide, implementing modern methods that protect your data and secure your transactions. At the same time, we urge our Customers to be particularly careful and take digital protection and security measures.
Below you can find practical tips and guidelines you can follow to protect your transactions and your device:
- Make sure you use strong passwords to access payment services by COSMOTE Payments. We recommend using passwords that contain at least 8 characters, upper and lower case, numbers and special symbols.
- Change passwords at regular time periods. Ensure that your passwords are securely managed and protected.
- Do not share passwords with anyone. If you use a shared device, log out of your account.
- Check your account transactions frequently.
- Do not open emails if you are unsure about their origin or sender. Check the sender carefully, as malicious users often impersonate legitimate companies and organizations.
- Do not reply to emails and/or sms messages that ask you to share your passwords or other personal information, such as your account details.
- Be cautious with attached files, even if they come from a sender you know.
- Do not follow links in messages you have received or links posted on social media and other companies' websites. Misleading email and/or SMS messages are intended to steal your personal data (e.g. Username, Password, etc.). These messages are supposed to have been sent by Cosmote Payments and may prompt you to go to a specific page and then enter your personal details.
- Always enter the web address of the COSMOTE Payments website yourself to confirm that it is the website you wish to go to.
- Trust communications coming only from the official Cosmote Payments channels.
In addition, COSMOTE Payments encourages you to:
- Keep your devices locked with a code, pattern or fingerprint.
- Make sure you keep a high-level security in your devices (e.g. tablets), ensuring that they always have the latest operating system and application security updates.
- Shield your device with reliable protection programs such as Antivirus and Antispyware. Pay attention to signs that indicate that your device has been infected by malware, such as messages from the Antivirus program you are using or other unusual messages.
- Always use the most recently updated versions of browsers.
- Avoid using public WiFi, especially those that do not require a password. If you eventually find it necessary to use them, avoid going to websites of services with crucial importance.
- Keep your crucial files encrypted.
- If your mobile phone stops working for unusual reasons, contact your mobile provider immediately. Sometimes you may lose signal due to other problems affecting your mobile service. However, if you lose service in a location that usually has good coverage, it's safest to contact your network provider and confirm that your SIM hasn't been switched off.
- Do not disclose your mobile phone number on social media. Be careful when disclosing information relating to you.
- If you have been a victim of any type of fraud such as SIM Swapping, Phishing, etc. or have detected transactions that are not authorized by you, please inform COSMOTE Payments immediately.
Always remember that:
COSMOTE Payments will never ask you for your passwords in any way (by phone, email or any other means of communication). They are personal and you must not disclose them to anyone.
