To ensure everything runs smoothly with your tax matters, the tax identification number (Steuer ID) is your most important identifier. It serves for clear assignment and remains with you for life – regardless of changes in residence or marriage.
Before submitting a new application, take a look at your documents. The eleven-digit number can be found in the following places:
- Wage tax certificate: Directly from your employer.
- Income tax assessment: Top left on the letter from your tax office.
- Information letter from the BZSt: The document you received when the number was first assigned.
Do you not have your Steuer ID at hand? Don’t worry, you can easily request it again from the Federal Central Tax Office (BZSt).
- Online form: Use the input portal on the official website of the BZSt.
- Data protection: For security reasons, the number is sent exclusively by post to your current registered address. Information by email or telephone is not possible.
- Waiting time: Allow for a processing time of up to 4 weeks.
